Our Remodeling Process
A Clear, Personal Process from First Walkthrough to Final Finish
At Stak Construction, we keep the process personal and straightforward. Our owner Alex Shostak responds directly, comes to the initial walkthrough, helps you understand your options, provides a written quote, and remains your main point of contact throughout the project.
You aren’t passed from one person to another. You’ll always know who to call, who has the answers, and who’s responsible for keeping the project moving forward.

What Makes Stak’s Process Different
That means fewer handoffs, clearer communication, and a more personal experience for the homeowner.
With Stak, you can expect:
• Direct communication with Alex, the company owner
• A free in-home walkthrough and quote
• Help understanding your project and budget
• Practical material and layout guidance
• Help choosing materials when needed
• Regular updates during the project
• A final walkthrough at completion
A remodel still takes planning, patience, and real decisions, but it shouldn’t feel confusing or impersonal.
Helpful details include:
• Project type
• Location
• Project description
• Desired timeline
• Rough budget
Alex typically responds the same day. If the project sounds like a good fit, he’ll usually schedule an in-home walkthrough with you within 1–2 days.
During the walkthrough, he may review:
• Current layout
• Existing damage
• Moisture or water concerns
• Plumbing or electrical needs
• Flooring, tile, trim, walls, and finishes
• Material goals
• Budget expectations
• Timeline needs
• How the space is used day to day
This is your time to ask as many questions as you like. If something sounds too difficult, expensive, or not worth the effort, Alex will discuss it with you to see what works best for you and your home. Honesty, transparency, and genuine care are the defining characteristics of a Stak walkthrough.
Your budget determines the right scope, materials, and approach. He can also share the financing options available to you through QuickBooks if you’d like.
Some choices have a big effect on cost, including:
• Countertops
• Custom vanities
• Cabinets
• Flooring
• Decking materials
• Plumbing changes
• Layout changes
If your desired updates don't match your budget, Alex can explain what would need to be changed, simplified, phased, or removed to bring the project closer to your range.
Stak Construction can work with your architect or designer when needed. Our team can also build 3D renderings for you to have a more comprehensive, realistic look at what your end result can look like. We'll also provide practical layout and material guidance based on your home, family life, hosting needs, budget, and how the space will be used.
We can typically help with all design features, including:
• Tile
• Cabinets
• Countertops
• Flooring
• Vanities
• Fixtures
• Decking
• Railings
• Paint
• Trim
• Lighting
• Layout options
• Storage needs
Alex can provide simple layout concepts, bring samples, or go with you to local stores where Stak has business accounts. He can walk you through materials options, explain their pros and cons, and help you make decisions with expert-guided confidence.
Whenever possible, Alex delivers and reviews the quote in person so that you can ask questions and understand what’s included in the cost.
Your quote may include:
• Scope of work
• Materials
• Labor
• Timeline
• Allowances, if needed
• Payment schedule
• Exclusions
• Project notes
• Next steps
After approval, Stak will then provide a written agreement or contract. Depending on the scope of work, a deposit may be required to confirm the project and move forward with scheduling.
Before construction begins, we confirm:
• Scope
• Timeline
• Materials
• Work hours
• Expectations
• Access to the home
• What needs to be cleared or moved
• What areas may be temporarily unavailable
Depending on the project, you may need to prepare for time without a kitchen, bathroom, basement area, deck access, or part of your living space. We’ll walk you through what to expect.
We also do our best to keep the work area and the rest of your home as undisturbed as possible with floor protection, dust control, barriers when needed, daily cleanup, and respect for your home.
He enjoys working in the field and stays involved as much as possible. Depending on the project, he may be on site with other workers, checking progress, coordinating materials, or managing trade partners.
You can expect updates when:
• A new phase is starting
• Materials arrive
• Work will be louder than usual
• A schedule change is needed
• A hidden issue is found
• A decision needs to be made
• The project is nearing completion
Communication can happen by call, text, email, or in person; the choice is yours! We prefer text for clarity and tracking, especially when decisions or updates need to be documented or referenced later.
If specialized plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other trade work is needed, we coordinate with vetted and licensed local professionals who we regularly work with and trust. If you have someone you'd prefer for us to work with instead, we can do that as well.
Examples could include:
• Water damage under flooring
• Old plumbing issues
• Electrical problems
• Framing concerns
• Moisture behind walls
• Subfloor damage
• Poor previous workmanship
When that happens, we document the issue with photos, notify you quickly, explain the solution, and provide the cost before moving forward.
If you decide to add something, change materials, expand the scope, or adjust the plan, we’re more than happy to talk through it with you. Any change that affects cost or timeline will be explained in writing before the work continues.
Depending on the project, we review new finishes in person like:
• Paint and stain finish
• Drywall details
• Tile and grout
• Trim and transitions
• Cabinets and drawers
• Plumbing fixtures
• Electrical fixtures
• Final cleanup
• Touch-up items
If a punch list is needed, we document it and handle those items as quickly as possible, usually within the same week.
Final payment is due upon completion. Before hanging up our boots, we clean the work area so that the finished project is fully ready for you to use and enjoy.

Warranty and Aftercare
That's why we offer a 3-year limited warranty, so that you can rest assured that you won't be left alone once the project is completed. Details can vary depending on the type of project, materials, manufacturers, and scope of work. We’d be happy to talk through warranty expectations for your specific project before work begins.
If you notice an issue after the project is complete, take a photo and text it to Alex with a short explanation. We’ll review it, discuss what’s happening, and let you know the next steps.
Our goal isn’t to wrap up quickly and disappear after the final walkthrough. We want you to feel confident in the finished work and comfortable reaching out at any time if something needs attention. We’re glad to help however we can!
